Born from the ingenious spirit of Mista Savona, the fantastic melding of Cuban and Jamaican music culture continues to thrive with the upcoming release of Havana meets Kingston‘s volume 2.
In 2017, the Australian musician and producer set up the Havana Meets Kingston project to link the music scenes of Cuba and Jamaica; two islands with a deep and passionate musical culture and heritage. “This project is very much about bringing master musicians together as well as creating opportunities for aspiring new artists” Mista Savona told us in an interview for the first Havana Meets Kingston release.
Outstanding musicians and gifted singers aside, those who were lucky enough to see the Havana Meets Kingston project live were unavoidably seduced by the explosive voice and striking charm of singer, composer, and percussionist Brenda Navarrete. Navarette, with her contagious feline charisma, interprets the eponymous single of the next collaboration. In the accompanying music video, we learn the title track is dedicated to legendary Jamaican guitarist and member of the band Winston, ‘Bopee’ Bowen, who died last year at the age of 62.
Havana meets Kingston 2 is expected for June 2020 via Baco Records.
